Peter’s aim within the middle section of 1 Peter is to address this question. So, when Peter gives instructions to wives, calling them to be submissive to their husbands and to embrace a quiet and gentle spirit, his motivation is evangelistic—so that the Gospel they profess may be adorned by the lives they live. Peter’s point is that wives are to adorn the Gospel by putting on Jesus. Wives are to clothe themselves with Christ, embracing His character, spirit, and life so that the Gospel might shine through them.
