Membership at MacArthur Blvd
What does MacArthur Blvd believe about membership?
The Bible describes life within the local church as a partnership. Churches are made up of an identifiable group of Christians who partner together to fulfill the mission of Christ and to hold one another accountable to their commitment to follow Christ. Becoming a member of MacArthur Blvd means that you are committing to this partnership with the members and pastors of the church. It also means that our church family is committing to you. We will commit to shepherd, encourage, admonish, pray for, and equip you for the work of ministry.
We have a high view of the church because God has a high view of the church. The Bible says that the church is the “bride” of Christ (Eph. 5:25-27). The church is the means by which God is fulfilling His mission in the world. It is the primary environment where Christian growth occurs. We believe that God expects every Christian to be a committed and active member of a local church. We would love to have you partner with us to fulfill the mission of God. However, we acknowledge that MacArthur Blvd is not for everybody. It is not our desire to get everybody to join our church. We do want to encourage every Christian to commit to a Gospel-focused church where they can be actively engaged.
The Membership Class
Every new member is required to attend the Membership Class prior to joining. This class consists of two sessions on consecutive Sundays at 9:30 a.m.–12 p.m. Participants will not be able to attend the Worship Service or a Community Group during these Sundays, so we provide you with a CD of the day’s message before you leave.

Can children be members?
Yes. Children who demonstrate through their personal testimony and fruit of the Spirit in their lives that they have decided to trust and follow Jesus, and who have been baptized as a believer, may become members of MacArthur Blvd. The process for becoming a member varies depending upon the age of your child.
Teenagers (6th gr. & up)
Teenagers in the sixth grade and up who desire to commit to membership will walk through the same membership process as an adult. When a teenager is joining the church along with his/her parents, they are encouraged to attend the Membership Class with their family.
Children (5th gr. & under) who have already been baptized
If the child has already been baptized, then the child along with a parent will meet with our Children’s Pastor, Jamie Brooks. Pastor Jamie will hear the child’s personal testimony from both the parent and the child. We also ask the child to write out his/her personal testimony (Pastor Jamie will provide more information on this during the initial meeting). After meeting with Pastor Jamie and writing out his/her personal testimony, the child will then be officially voted into membership along with their family, during the next Semiannual Member Meeting.
Children (5th gr. & under) who have not been baptized
A child who has professed faith in Jesus Christ and desires baptism will be prepared for baptism by working with their parents (or a spiritual leader within the church if a parent is not available) through a resource that will teach them what it means to trust and follow Christ. Parents can obtain this resource from our Children’s Pastor, Jamie Brooks. We want to equip, resource, and support parents to take the lead in instructing their child what it means to be a follower of Christ and preparing them for baptism.
Once the child has completed the discipleship resource, he/she along with a parent will meet with Pastor Jamie to discern the child’s readiness for baptism. The child will be asked to write out and share verbally his/her personal testimony. The purpose of this meeting is not to test a child’s knowledge about Christianity but to affirm that they have indeed received new birth.
Once the parents and Pastor Jamie agree that the child is ready, he/she will be baptized on a date that works for the church and the family. The child will then be officially voted into membership along with their family, during the next Semiannual Member Meeting.
