Description:
It is true that Christ is the fulfillment of the sacrificial system of the Old Covenant. Nevertheless, Christians still have the responsibility and privilege of expressing their love and gratitude to God for all He has done for them. We do this by giving ourselves every day as a sacrifice of thanksgiving to our Lord. We do not offer this sacrifice in order to receive more of God’s forgiveness or to add to the atonement Christ purchased for us. We are loved perfectly by God and our sins are covered completely. No, we do this because we genuinely love God. It is true that just because you give expressions of love to God (e.g. attend church, sing, give financially, etc.) does not necessarily mean you truly love God. But true love for God will be demonstrated through outward expressions.

Giving ourselves to God includes our entire lives. We cannot compartmentalize certain aspects of life that we want to keep from God. It includes our bodies, thoughts, wills, and possessions. Three specific expressions of our love for God are attending church, singing in worship, and giving financially. As people who have been transformed, we must think and live with renewed minds. We do not think we can’t give, we know that we can give because Christ has given His all for us. We do not do what we want to do; we live according to Christ’s will for our lives.
