The way of the kingdom described for us in the Sermon on the Mount is not an easy way. It is counterintuitive and countercultural. But, it is the way of blessing.
The demands of Jesus to repent and follow him require humility. The character he expects us to display cultivates humility in us by showing our inability to do it without his help. From beginning to end, Jesus is working in us the primary work that needs to be done: He is humbling us.
