Description:
Do not presume that just because you began well (i.e. you made a decision for Christ and were baptized in the past) you can be complacent toward sin in your life today. In God’s kingdom, finishing is just as important as beginning (cf. the Parable of the Soils). Sin is deceptive and incredibly dangerous. You must have a plan to fight sin because sin has a plan to destroy you.

Protect your heart! Sin is a liar. Sin starts small and grows gradually. Sin, subtly and over the course of time, will lead you to a place where you are in outright rebellion against God. Protect your heart by allowing it to be transformed by God’s word daily. If you do not have one already, create or find a plan that will get you in God’s word every day. Find a mechanism for accountability. Who is asking you regularly if you are in God’s word? Make sure you approach your time in the Bible out of a desire to encounter God by His Spirit rather than a desire to merely get smarter or to check off a box.

Pursue Christian community! The mutual and frequent exhortation of Christian community is one of the primary ways we are protected from the deceitful schemes of sin. Without Christian community, sin will lead you astray. Who in your life right now is willing to speak truth into your spiritual walk? Who knows how to pray for you? Get in a Community Group and live a life in community.

Persevere in faith! Do not grow complacent in your fight against sin. What lie have you believed? What sin have you harbored? Do not underestimate the seriousness of sin—it will destroy you. Wage war on sin because it is waging war on you!
