Description:
The “Golden Rule” is one of the first ethical principles you’re taught as a child. This Sunday, maybe for the first time, you will get to study the meaning of this simple command within the actual context in which it was given. Matthew 7:12 comes right after Jesus has discussed our Heavenly Father’s ability to give good things to those who ask. He then says, “So [based upon what I just said] whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” In other words, just like we want good things from our Father, we should be giving good things to others.

The primary application of this command has to be missional. Last Sunday we discussed that God does not just give His children what they want, He gives them what He knows is best for them. What is the best thing we can give other people? According to the Sermon on the Mount, it is the message of the Kingdom of God! This coming Sunday we will prepare to unveil all our mission opportunities in 2014 with perhaps the greatest call in the Bible to missions, the Golden Rule.
