If God is love, then it only makes sense that one of the primary characteristics of
His children is that they love one another. A “Christian” who can’t stand the
church and does not care for other Christians is not a genuine child of God
according to John. Furthermore, genuine love according to John goes beyond lip
service. Anyone can say they love somebody else, but the love of God is a love
that selflessly acts.
